At the time of his death in 1896, Frederic Leighton had just been ennobled by Queen Victoria.  He remains the only British artist to have received this honour.  His funeral was to take place amidst great public ceremony at St Paul’s Cathedral when he was interred adjacent to the cathedral’s architect Sir Christopher Wren.

We are delighted to welcome Daniel Robbins, Senior Curator with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, to our 2024 Festival.  His talk will explore Leighton’s life and career to understand how he achieved such recognition and his role in reinventing what it  meant to be an artist for the Victorian age.

This event forms part of The Arts Society Cotswolds annual programme or lectures and events.
